Honoring Legends

I have recieved Zoot #7, the origin and first appearance of Rulah ( a classic golden age Good Girl Art; Jungle Heroine.

Rulah is a good starting point for fan-art, and original, nostalgic re-imaginings of the classic genre; their are alot of archetypes done well (elite high class woman becomes savage warrior, tribal depictions – topless natives, body paint, bone jewelry, – explorers, native animals, ect,..,) perfected over the span of every iteration of this genre.

Studying that first work, can be good for applying to original work, using its raw essence, as a palette.

*All above links within this ‘Honoring Legends” section today are to the same page: The Rulah First appearance and Origin page: including scans/photos of vintage Zoot #7; artbook scans; studies and re-imaginings.

Story Telling

First I wrote it as non-fiction. Then realized, publishing it would hurt more people, that it was worth for mere entertainment or creative vanity.

Then I considered making it into fiction. Fantasy, comicbook, worlds, that are expected to be larger than life, that was a way for me to get the details out, using creative non-fiction; mixing character traits,- combining, making various characters for expressing moments, dilemmas, scenes, and all the things that I want to express, in one way or another. The details would come up in every conversation I had with anyone; until I started this project. Which make all the art, and stories, make sense – and the purpose for the elaborate development of a comicbook world, visual novel, website, multiple social media accounts, ect,.

Adaptations

To study the first issue, evokes the imagination: what later was defined – or embellished, and represents the genre, began as unrealized potential; and speculation about what it could have become; if a creator or ‘code’, allowed; inspiring fresh variation – from any branch along points in the comic’s run. The 1st appearance, and origin, is the point from which most variance is possible – from the current representation – that is closest to the core idea at it’s inception.

Much of what follows, in a run, can be influenced by sales. Before that, the idea is more raw; and closer to idealism ( even if it was conceived as a brain child intended for a perceived audience; it nonetheless, is purer to a singular concept, than the issues influenced by ratings and feedback). Starting from the core idea, that differentiates the character from the existing ones, a trajectory for the character can be taken, that doesn’t resemble the polished one, yet has the essence of that creation; it’s time period, and creator’s aspirations.
