I’ll describe some of the facets of the website, types of art presented, and how they relate to a new comicbook.
Composition Book: Rough layouts, concept art, sequences, character design.
I wanted to give insight into some of the scenes I’m working toward; with the composition book sequences.
Composition Book – Organizational Tool
To the discerning eye, these are ‘rough’ drawings. The purpose of posting them is to share the process. The purpose of making them, is an organizational tool, outlining which images to link in sequence, and what templates to work on, or match quality templates or reference material to.
Methodology for Quality –
My methodology for creating ‘quality’ professional mainstream Pre-Code Horror sequences, is to reference quality professional mainstream panels/covers and art, for the ”ideal” pose, perspective, style and aesthetics for each panel.
Pages from Scratch vs. Reference.
This is a little different than piecing together sequences from scratch. Often working from scratch can generate novel, dynamic and stunning poses, gestures, scenes or compositions. But generally, there are many panels that are shorthand, and lacking in some regard. So out of 40 pages from scratch , there might be 5 really dynamic panels.
What I am going for, is to do both: the from scratch sequences are the composition book sequences. The reference based templates are redrawings of studies. Some of the composition book panels, are worthy of redrawing in to a template.
Ultimately, this process allows for the refined product I envisioned.
Meanwhile, though, work is generated, to indicate the many other aspects -costumes, character proportion, layout, logos, maps, pieces of story ideas; that can be later put together to form a more impactful whole.
So, this week I wanted to share some more composition sequences.
