Intro
It takes time to scan, and photo the interiors. But I can post cropped photos* of the many new vintage references: to share the enthusiasm, they give me, for the genre – potential. And give you an idea what is upcoming, available for me to study**
*Photos of recent items won at auction – to later scan, photo interior, study; redraw.
(Vintage References: Inside photos (24MP): cover scans.)Link
**I buy them all at a flippable value, so I can later: A) sell (at profit), alongside my new work ( free advertisement to a relevant audience).
Meanwhile, I can study them, and know firsthand the source of the legends; so that I am closest to being an expert on this, as possible; if in a comic con, there are people with lots of esoteric knowledge about comics/artists/ values/ characters/ 1st appearances.
Why Study Vintage Comics?
One aspect, is the foundational, reference*: stemming from the original iconic covers many generations have grown up with: like the trunk of tree, from which the Lurid Pre-Code horror art branches from: use to be demonstrative, in social media; and to give fresh life to the classics.
* ( many of which , have much worth interest; rather than random, and imitating current trends on galleries. )
To me, when first approaching the idea of trying to make a comicbook, I realized, how particular, critical, serious comicbook fans can be – and how vast the history, of comicbooks is, beyond the several years I collected them in middle school through highschool.
This is a self education process, so I feel confident, knowing, generally, the work that came before, so that my subsequent work, is adding something, improving on something; rather than just assuming my idea is novel ( only to discover, it has been done already, and better).
The price, and value, is an investment, mostly in my resolve, to study as much vintage comicbook* artwork as I can, while preparing to make my own, during this period of prolificity. Since the comics can always be sold back on auction, I view it like college textbooks, that go up in value – which more people want.
* (While I am in an environment where I can properly store, care for, and make use of ( scanner., and art equipment)).
