The 14 x 17″ ‘s, I drew today, about 1 hour each,…

and the 11 x 14″ pre code scene,… ( which is redrawing of a previously posted concept piece).

* ( I have an idea for the overall story – and it’s ending; but I work out the panels, as I work on it).
Incidentally, I found a comcibook published by Dark horse comics, entitled “WitchFinder”. Not surprised, the main reason I went with “WitchFynder”*.
*The above is not an alternate spelling – I had a concept for the logo, and after a night of losing sleep, to a late ending auction, I started this drawing, and ran out of room on the edges.
The above, I intended to color with prismacolor, but went in to check an auction ( at midday) and remained on the PC, for the rest of that day, bidding, and winning, scarce pre-code, and GGA comics, that were ending that day. I look forward to sharing them**.
A colorful costume idea – mainly concentrating on getting the color, and design elements*** on paper, before I forget.
***( so some of the proportions can be improved, and is not, in itself, a developed illustration – more like notes, shorthand; like the composition book freehand drawings)
Ironically, I have the most costume, and concept ideas, when I inadvertently stay up too late, completing a task. Then, in the morning, I need more sleep, but am full of ideas I was thinking of that night -which quickly fade. I then eat breakfast, and as quickly as possible, mark down the name, title, ideas; and pose, scene, costume, story ideas.
When I get proper sleep for several days in a row, and start doing martial arts, in intervals between studio drawing; the art precision, and concentration ability ( required for reproduction studies) is at it’s peak. And then, I generally don’t have so much concern of forgetting ideas, or need to write down concepts. That is when the studio work is best. But having written down the ideas, I can later revisit them, when I am in top form.
** As I have time to photo the interiors, scan, and put in 4mil mylar ( Micro chamber interleaving paper, and e gerber fullbacks for Silver/Golden age) – Photo graphing an interior, usually takes an hour or so; and most of the day, if I photo several. Ideally, I’d process them as soon as they arrive, but I have so many now; so I have to pace myself. That’s why I post the 24MP cover photos, to give an idea of what’s coming up.

Vintage:
Pre-Code horror
A classic Pre-Code Horror image. Many applications for the elements in this image – I hadn’t seen a copy since last summer; and this is in better condition than any raw on the market.
I treat this with the effort and diligence of art school, and spending all day studying still lifes; for 3 months at a time, for 5 years.
I have wanted to study this style – the expression on the face- ever since I saw it on the internet in searches, several years ago. Another scarce raw copy, I anticipate drawing, and applying to original scenes.
I feel like I am past the need to make perfect pages, panels, art ect. Having done a good breadth of studies, and seeing my work measures up in some ways to professional work I’ve been studying –
8 copies on the CGC census. This iconic image is featured on the PSA artbook collecting these rare Pre-Code Horror comics; the highest graded is CGC 6.5. This is a raw 3.0. ( bidders fought this up to a high price: list does not represent the market value for these hard to find books.)
even when I draw without reference; I can focus more on the process of setting up scenes, and concepts ( of course, I try my best; but, I mean, the idea of being disappointed with what I draw, seems to no longer be as much of a concern – so I can more directly work on the comic development; whereas previously, I was more concentrating on reproduction studies**.)
Scans
This Iconic Pre Code Horror comic, is 3 times the value of the former. I like the colors, and the profile. This is a ‘headlights’ cover. ( the breasts, are shaped, and shaded, like old fashioned headlights; something that was enhanced upon by succeeding generations of artists- done remarkably unique by the 90’s artists, depicting spandex, and leather glare on the breasts, with metallic line work, implying depth, roundness )
** which enable the redrawing. Eventually, I imagine I can be even more streamlined and efficient; when I have backgrounds, that I can use and simply draw character poses, to make multiple images in a sequence ( like cartoon cels; in CSP, ‘raster layers’) – and use CSP to color each page, using the same basic palette.
There are some panels in the interior ( more than several pages) worth studying and applying to original characters.
*( yesterday, 2 hours in the morning – then I was pre occupied with an auction ending; involving Crime Suspenstories #22, CGC 4.5 which someone else won for $2382 – better than the ebay deals floating around: generally $3,000 for a CGC 2.0, or 3.0. There is a better looking copy going for auction May 15 at comic link, also CGC 4.5, but without the conspicuous pencil writing on the cover of the previous copy that sold yesterday. Instead, I ordered a Russ Cochran print, of the cover, which should be of top quality, which I can study draw, and redraw later).

I look forward to posting again around Saturday.
