Words.
( I ordered an Ernie Chan original art piece( Savage Sword of Conan – 2 Dave Hoover; Luppachino; 2 Dick Giordano; 4 Ex mutants ( 3 production color also: which I can learn about how coloring was done in 1990’s comics); and a really stunning 2 piece splash from Witchblade ( that would make a great redrawing, template). Comics: variations of Spawn #300 * ( after watching a recent documentary, by the inspiring entreprenuer); Batman #250 ( higher grade copy).
Looked through DA luridmax ( it’s almost Sept – thinking about the annual campaign) went through all notifications – present to Nov 2019; found alot of good references, and a message of inquiry; once I finish, I can set up new posts for the DA).
Sorted out payments to get some great original art to redraw: checked subscribe star; I appreciate the messages, and comments; and everyone’s contributions over the years, thanks so much!
Going to bed early, has really been great. Getting much more done. ( froze 5 buckets of fresh fruit and produce from trees in the yard – enough to last for a year; a significant, but infrequent season task. Finally vaccumed the house, and weeded the plants, around the yard.
Ordered storage supplies for the current items taking space in the studio; been listening to soundtracks from 90’s video games, and action/sci-fi films. Looking forward to some uninterrupted studio time*. M – Sat.

Lurid Max Mission*
The mission of the Lurid Max project, was, related to the presentation of lurid pre-code horror, which is censored in most of the highest quality, and otherwise more rich worlds of mainstream graphic novels, but not in AAA video games. To create a comicbook that has the rich details, and elements of mainstream storytelling, world building, character interaction, story arcs, ect, but ‘not censoring’ the gore, or pre-code horror. Simple enough to say, but, the process and advertising of it, in the stage of the lurid pre code concept art development, seems to have it appear similar to most offerings. The goal, is to try to go the extra mile, and create the aforementioned mainstream elements.
And for those interested, offer the censored scenes, as part of the whole comic. And for the public, omit those scenes, with a link, to the uncensored version. I conceived this, from the ‘viewer’s’ perspective, while I did strenuous manual labor, and would surf galleries; sometimes inspired to start doing art, when I’d find some really good artists, with comic sequences that alluded to a pre code horror scene. It occurred to me, I would gladly pay for the rest of that comic, if it were available – but, for the most part, artists are restrained by their reputation, and rely on free social media; and limited by the censorship of the day.
The first, and most significant task, was to conceive the art; studying ideal panels, perspectives; brainstorming, combining aspects; making rough layouts; finding and acquiring ideal references ( over time, some sense of quality is gained, and often repetition of poses, perspectives, is identifiable: thus, when a superior reference source is studied, the lesser sources, with less information, to convey visually, are not necessary to study.
But rather than another gallery of one type of scene, repetitively – I was inspired by Skyrim: how it contains the most historically accurate intro of a typically censored scene, but beyond that , is a rich vanilla open world game. I suppose the phenomena I experienced was, the intro, like watching a trainwreck, led to playing the opening level, and then leveling up. Each quest, was a series of hikes, into a beautiful outdoor background, and caves, requiring stealth.
From never playing videos games as an adult, to setting aside 45mins to 3 hours a day. I set up companions, used mods, spending hours, to learn; making up names, costumes, distributing weapons, skills; going on missions; after a year, there were still fresh quests.
I never got bored of the game, it was remarkable; and I considered modding; learned how; began to – then considered, with the time and effort, I could develop art, comics, and use them as assets for a game*.
* ( once you’ve modded, you see how a game engine allows for inserting assets, to make new standalone quests).
The gory, adult, nsfw was possible with mods, and yet, the vanilla game, was the foundation, the backdrop, which made the aforementioned a curiosity, to explore, with the assets. In that way, Lurid Max, content, I’ve been developing, are the assets, and the mods; which I am preparing to release like ‘expansions’, under their own brand**
** ( ie, like” Atlas” is kind of like a pirate ‘expansion’ for ‘Ark’).
There are lurid scenes, concepts, and there are the vanilla characters, and quests. Together, they complement each other. A fantasy game, realism, detail, epic scale, exploration, or depiction of every possibility, uncensored. When you’ve had enough of a mod, you can play without it; that’s the substance that something like Skyrim has, which I wanted to bring to the lurid/pre-code horror art. A comic book experience, that reads like a Marvel, Dc, Image or Darkhorse comic- but, like a dvd with extras; deleted scenes ( or lurid pre -code horror scenes, that are NSFW)
From a viewer’s perspective, it is a simple, and straightforward concept. I look at adult art whenever I want, and gore is easily available in galleries ( and AAA games, mods). I’m an adult, and when I create art reflecting, combining the above, it seems as natural, and normal as viewing it; but with more time and effort, to do the studio work ( and with subscribers; daily work, a sense of deadlines, posting, planning).
Its from the creator side, I see the power of mainstream media, and why many artists are restrained by censorship. And how advertising nsfw art, is a very different experience, socially, than viewing only. The door is open, for anyone to rant, and attack verbally, or otherwise target you for anything above rated “G” ; especially for gore, and female nudity.* Thus, anonymity, and separate brands, add to the things to plan for. Thought given to which characters represent each brand, careful not to mix them, and reveal the identity, through a careless writing; using a variety of encrypted emails.
Not sharing NSFW to certain people; because of the impression it makes on some who feel strongly about certain NSFW, and how that affects your social image to relatives, longtime colleagues, or potential employers outside of the art field. These factors, are the obstacles created by fearful viewers, trying to repress, and censor, what is already accepted in AAA games, and certain galleries. So, even though the mission statement is simple, and the ability is there to achieve it, the confounding factor, is how to market the different aspects, with one, being a detriment to the other; and the additional time and effort it takes.
* for which there is a special population of troll, that views it, then messages the creator, to project their intense ambivalent reactions. Who from ,shame, lack of partner, or experience, have low self esteem, and try to convince themselves, they’ve been assaulted, and attack back for the perceived threat to their ego.
Rather than do fan-art, the Skyrim game, inspired me to make an effort, to create my own assets ( the fan art, can come later) and put in lurid pre-code horror adult scenes, with the mainstream; the tricky part is setting up, so both are accessible, and keeping out the people who want to slander, and sabotage NSFW artists****
**** based on their own personal ambivalence, and presumption, that out of sight, out of mind, is some sort of keyboard warrior achievement, rather than the narrow minded, peevish, selective censorship, imposed as a form entitlement: that the internet feature only the shows, stations, themes, words, images, that they want to see; peevishly banning everything else.

Story Telling
I view my artwork that is Lurid Pre Code horror as:
a) I understand it makes the majority feel awkward ( that is the nature of Lurid/Horror ) b) I experience when someone feels intensely awkward after I show them such artwork, they rarely speak to me again the same, if at all (not everyone, but a minority of certain individuals; who are generally extra sensitive, paranoid, neurotic, fearful in general c) I don’t display it in frames or on walls like my mainstream art work or portraits. d) there are some people who value it’s level of detail and quality, and appreciate the scarcity of lurid pre code horror art, and approach me for commissions, and inquire for more*.
*That is what “Lurid Max” is for. When someone wants to see lurid pre code horror art, I can share it just to them; and not people who are described in c), b), or a).
Adaptations
Pre-Code Horror Renaissance:
One of the observations I have, is that modern pre-code horror type art, seems to be created with minimal planning, and craftsmanship. Some artists go right for nudity, and gore; like an extract; leaving out other enriching, beneficial aspects. The viewing interest will peak, initially with nudity, and gore, then with repeated, similar content, decline in interest. Thus, to me, it seems, the art will never look like sword and fumetti, or lurid horror, sword and sorcery, with aesthetic variations, frank frazetta covers, or modern anatomy, physiques, and software ( digital capability).
Analogy, like a chef baking cookies, made of refined sugar, will never become a pizza; though they share ingredients, like flour; they will never be the same.
It’s a simple goal, and project concept; but the time on task, stamina, concentration and effort, it takes, is more than the one-shot drawings, colored to produce for regular posting. The other edge of internet/social media, is the concept of maintaining an audience; opting to create more quantity, rather than quality.
And social media reputation. In a day where people can slander, and troll individual artists, through the marginally supervised channels of free social media galleries, where the largest amount of commerce travels.
The new brand, which I can post art for as ‘mainstream’, and for new paying members, access to Patreon ( nudity, – maybe sex*)
*I say maybe, because, pre -code horror is a lot to digest, and try to master already. If I do that the best I can first; later I can do hentai. There are so many artists doing sex, hentai art. After I put forward a comprehensive Pre Code Horror ‘body of work’, maybe I can try hentai. I feel one of the keys to mastering hentai art, would be informed references – using live models, or girlfriends. I am still working toward establishing the Pre code horror content( with digital stores, pdfs for download, pivix fanbox, IG account, facebook, and all that is involved in tastefully presenting Lurid Pre code horror, in social media, for new subscribers). And then trying to do some commissions ( after I am , inking and coloring, proficiently – thus far I have been sketching, to ‘describe’ the concepts for the comicbooks).
Gratitude
Thank you for making this possible, with your interest, generosity and participation. It has allowed me to do art as form of employment during the pandemic, for which I have immeasurable gratitude.
Take care! Have a great day.
