Independent Artist Advantages

Writing a story, takes up my concentration. It is switching gears. Like eating protein, and carbing up for a long labor, or strenuous activity,.. then sitting, and thinking about what to type instead. After typing, I find I have lost track of time, and no longer in the physically primed state ( the shoulder hand, dexterity , coordination ect) to create my best art; which is what having an online, subscription website posting system is most advantageous for.

I draw at whatever process, rate, method, tools, size, detail and subject matter ( rather than working for a higher paid, studio, drawing what I am told; cutting corners, minimalizing detail, churning out ‘good enough’ mainstream; politically appropriate, PG, PG-13, small 8 x 11″ , ink, or all digital outline, images, colored, using software, or a colorist) ).

Time Management

If I spend my time writing feedback, and replies, and answering questions, to the detriment of the next day’s studio drawing, it reduces the advantage of this system. If I am going to be a part time P.R. secretary, instead of have time to draw and create my visual novel scripts, I can make far more money working for the school board, or graduate school.

This is first and foremost a labor of love, passion, creative voice, ,.. money ( like Todd Macfarlane said) is a byproduct, to drive my art. So I appreciate those who have supported and encourage my art.

Fine Art versus Computer typing

I am a fine art painter, and experienced with traditional tools. Emails, require me to be on the computer. The longer I am on the computer typing emails – the less time I have to create my own scripts, for which I hire voice actresses, to create a repertoire of audio, to accompany animations.

Answering emails, describing characters, giving feedback : There is no short response guaranteed, I describe my characters or answers to the best of my ability, because it is important to me how they are portrayed. They have never existed before, no one else knows about them. If I don’t describe them to the best of my ability, there is no one else that can correct my oversight. So, I am in the position to be extra vigilant, in editing, and double checking anything I present, and associate with as original IP.
