On Professional Mainstream Quality
It seemed confounding, in a way I didn’t anticipate, to create a mainstream quality comicbook, with pre-code horror scenes; because the quickest route to views is the pre-code horror scenes themselves. However, they can become monotonous. The elements that are absent: character development, story complexity, backgrounds, backstories, relatable dialogue; are not necessary items, to get attention from the aforementioned viewers. A pre-code horror gallery, with mainstream quality elements, placed on a gallery that is controversial – viewers aren’t interested in the mainstream elements, cause they can find that in mainstream galleries.
So time spent creating the mainstream aspects is rewarded less, than the pre-code scenes. Imagine having subscribers, watch an artist post 3 months of background paintings. Maybe in a year, the backgrounds result in a total presentation that is one of a kind. But in those months, viewers who came looking for pre-code horror art, tuned out.
That is one price, for the well-rounded quality I envision: as I work on the individual elements.
Website Organization Updates
Site updated: The weekly pack archives, are in gallery format ( rather than single image vertical scroll) and open with current password.
I found an apocrypha post from April 4 that didn’t link to media file ( and corrected it).
Comic Book World Design: Writing, Scripts Frame by Frame
Scripted an 11 page pre-code horror sequence – frame by frame, ( that can be looped, with different characters, and panel variations) featuring sci-fi lore; ( part of the Lurid Max comicbook world; including ‘Congo Jongo‘ et al).
Compiled names, locations, cast, from 6 different scripts and stories.
Typed 2 pages of a detailed screenplay, that was written longhand, (originally as an addition to the Mainstream lore, that was a lurid pre-code horror sequence – but otherwise doesn’t need to be there, or affect any of that world; thus, I can move it here; with a few modifications; for my currently more advanced cast, and storylines. ).
Lurid Max has come along way in a short period of time. Most of the Apocrypha is digital (b/w) ready to be colored. There are more views on social media than I imagined. I have written enough material for a comic title to represent major genres. It’s been fun creating new characters/ scripts -specifically with this audience in mind. I appreciate everyone’s continued interest and generous patronage.
