February Comicbook project Art Blog

This is where I will post comicbook pages: 11 x 17″; (with panels, gutter, trim, image area – at current industry size; for submission to major publishers.

Disclaimer: The following have never been published, and are not to be shown anywhere – if I find any of these circulating, I won’t share them again.

The purpose of sharing these, is to give an idea of what level of quality I am working to bring to the upcoming comics. It’s easy to draw beautiful women well, since the motivation is inherent. To learn to draw the rest of what makes up a professional comicbook, requires patience, dedication and labor. But, the reward, is a larger scope of interesting stories, situations, and character nuance, that keeps the range of the Pre-Code comic from becoming repetitive, and boring.

The writers (non -artist) had a very boring layout detailed in their frame by frame script, for page 1. To do my best to at least keep the eye moving, I designed this last week, in 6 hours.
Ironically, as mainstream and lacking in ‘lurid’ quality – the writers were concerned the women looked too ‘sexualized’ – and requested they be drawn more ‘relate- able’; with their sexual appeal reduced a bit. It’s funny, to me, because this is standard mainstream proportion – and where I live, the women generally look like this. I told them, when I trace the pencils to ink, I will reduce their breast size, and add costumes.
There were alot of emotional reaction cues, and I tried to accurately convey the nuances, so someone could sense the situation, even if it were a silent comic.
I got up to this page as of this past Monday. Feb 25 2019.

The scope of my work for the team ( 2 writers, a colorist, and a letterer ) is 6 pages. [2 pages and a partial page remain. ] They are going to submit it ASAP [ once I ink, and grey tone (b/w color) ].

The Apocrypha is work that I did over the past 20 years. Stacks of art, I’ve never shared publicly, which I am now scanning – before I put it in storage. The LuridMax project 1st phase, is collecting all the scans, connecting oversized scans, remastering them, and assembling them into a collection for public access.

The Early access subscriptions give viewers interested, full view of the images I am preparing, before I edit it. Some pages seen in early access, won’t appear in the Collection.

As a collector, I appreciate variant covers, sketch artwork, and unpublished, and rare images. Access to Lurid Max is essentially a VIP pass to all of the above. Welcome to my Comicbook Studio! – It’s a pleasure to share my weekly work.
