Reference Collage*
This is something I’ve been doing, that helps me to get combo ideas saved, For more about Reference Collages* see May 2nd Word.
These are some Key references I want to redraw ASAP. ( with tasks completed – like acquiring vintage references for the next year, and setting up page links, and getting ahead on regular other duties; I am enabling the time to work on these; and anticipate, how they will look embellished: and potential applications for social media, promotion later on; and video games, variants, and animations. .
Three Fourth’s Front Perspective:For a Template:*
*Plan is to study (redraw) this from my PC monitor. I am essentially creating collages, for reference: Reference Collages.
Eric Stanton: legs, heels, feet, waist, pelvis, face perspective, expression
( he worked from models).
John Byrne: Upper body,
(redrawing from a composition freehand, combined with a pad study of John Byrne panel )
Fastner and Larson: The background
( composition setting, subject, costumes, shading style: greytones; muscular definition, shadow/ highlights: skin tones; props.)
Side View:
Heavy Metal cover: lower legs, breasts.
Different Heavy Metal cover: upper body.
Scan of an Italian Artist’s painting: arms, hands
Men’s Adventure cover: face
Role Play group photo: Props
Supporting cast: still image from Stargate Atlantis episode.
Gore: from a manipulated image from the internet
*These are not like manipulations of photos, in that they aren’t meant to be stand alone, complete works of art. Instead, this is notation, capturing ( in minutes), something I notice, recognizing elements that can be ‘combined’, from various references, to make a unique idealized piece. This is the chief effort and goal, for Lurid Max: to create striking, poses, with as many aspects idealized as possible: ie, the main figure, the legs, and the face – and even thought to the bkg and supporting cast. I am working toward creating standalone ( full color) pieces, that are rich, detailed, large, and have many qualities, that continue to be worth looking at again and again**
** (to me at least) – and not see obvious areas where a minor improvement, could have increased the quality of the whole composition.
