Tues May 5 2020 Updates; Tribute; Lore; Adaptation; Thanks
I posted drawings I did all day today ( with only a couple hours interruption*). I was impressed with how much I can draw in a seemingly short period of time. **
**the bulk of my week ( 3 days engrossed in various auctions.****)
**** It appears many scarce ( ie, 8 on CGC census, more or less: 4 – 30. Meaning 30 Comic Guarantee corporation slabbed books on record. Raw copies not included. Generally Marvel and Dc titles have hundreds, to thousands of copies on the CGC census – the pre-code horror are hard to come by. Many aren’t available at all. I read, recently Russ Cochran died. He had a vast collection of pre-code horror comicbooks. Now, key books that rarely were seen for sale, have been appearing. My main purpose, is to put forth my best effort. And I know, by having the physical copy, I will more than likely take the time to study draw it. Since it’s most comfortable to look at the physical copy, rather than at my pc monitor, the studies are better.
Thus far, I have seen some improvements in my ability to layout panels, and conceptualize the poses, storyboard. I still want to improve facial expressions. I’ve seen effective tools, such as making a template sheet, with various key expressions, for easy reference.
I think, in general, I conceptualize the physical body, as it appeals to me, muscularly, and proportionally. But I find, that the facial expressions done by professional artists, when combined with the physiques I draw, look much better to me, than the faces I invent; most of the time; other than a closed mouth expression. The articulation of the lips, teeth, tongue, and the anatomy, and expression in the eyes and forehead are things that would greatly improve many of my drawings in progress.
Also, since I am nearing, feeling not much is lacking, and ready to start coloring with other media ( starting with colorpencils/ ink)- I began a study of the cross section of the neck, from anatomy books for medical students. Before even completing the reproduction drawing, I have seen an improvement in the impact of the detail in pre-code horror scene drawings.
Rather than state a specific planned schedule, I expect to get some quality work done. There are so many things worth doing, and only so much time each day. It feels good to see some logos near being ready to use.
* Ordering archival mylar for incoming pre-code horror, golden age, and misc comics/magazines
It seems like a series of stories, based on the “The Lottery” with some movie scenes, that he reimagined, adding pre-code horror to implied situations, and straight hard porn. Featuring some celebrities of his time ( as artists will do – myself included). Based on some of his illustrations featuring a young Molly Ringwald ( 1984 “Sixteen Candles” ) and a lot of his mature, ambitious, skilled, pieces dating from the 70’s – , with some shorter works featured later on. If still living, he could be anywhere from 70 to 84 now. Famous fumetti artist, like Emanuele Taglietti, ( born 1943) is 77 years old, and still healthy, and active.
I would like to start posting for an audience on Deviant art again, when I have time*.
* I have conceived of a way to create content for Lurid Max – in addition to all the different stories/characters; a particular style of cartoon stylized faces and figures. And for the brands that will carry my serious stories, and messages to both mainstream and adult audiences, I can use the more realistic detailed style, and a particular color scheme, inking style, watermark ect. And a signature, that is a pseudonym, for the different brands. This should be due diligence, and allow for fresh viewers and a normal usage of the Deviant art platform, and related social media.
First I prioritize keeping up with my plans for this website and subscribers. whose generous patronage, has inspired me to invest my best effort into the Lurid Max Pre-Code Renaissance. Thanks for your interest, and encouragement! Stay safe and be well. I look forward to sharing my latest developments each week! Take care.
