Red Sonja
I also have a sense how the ‘iconic‘ quality of Red Sonja, is much a product of a powerful marketing network. Marvel comics has an arrangement with Diamond distribution, which makes their comics cost less to deliver to comicbook shops; so they can profit by charging less than independent comics. Anything Marvel produces can have an economic appeal, and quality ( team of artists/ large repertoire of characters) that is nearly impossible to compete with.
Red Sonja is known to different generations, by different mediums and artists. I mostly know Red Sonja from the movie. ( like I said, I only had two comics – it was the movie that felt like the authority to me as a kid; that made Red Sonja seem important).
There are people older than me, who remember Frank Thorne’s art on the 1st Red Sonja issues ( and Marvel Feature). He drew voluptuousness that was slightly conspicuous for its time. The skimpyness, and the red hair, visually increased the female character.

Rylanda’s Quest
Rylanda‘s uncle found the location of an Immutable’s stasis vessel – a giant ship/pod, shaped like a giant column; with many compartments, floors, windows, and as tall as a skyscraper; that had come to rest in the jungle, of the P’munte. He made maps of his explorations – kept journals- which he passed on to his niece Rylanda. When he did not return from an expedition (he had been anticipating finding an ancient temple), Rylanda inherited his journals – ( his last will and testament).
