Week 2 of Mar: Sound Studio Task Accomplishments:
Recording Level Settings:
It took about 6 days, of 3 hours each, to test the recording level settings** – in playback: for the ideal laptop mic ( 56) and keyboard volume ( 75%) levels. Too high mic gain, and keyboard volume, blows the speakers, too low, you can’t hear all the parts. Without an audio interface, and for the first time transferring a 1990 Yamaha PSR 510 keyboard to a 2019 Laptop, to record in audacity, using an aux headphone jack from the PSR 510 ( using a converter) to the laptop, using a y splitter, from a gaming headset – it’s trial and error, to find the best recording levels. I wanted to persist, until I found the best balance, before investing months of recordings ( time, and file space).
** since I as yet, don’t own a $1000 Sweetwater audio interface, or a $100 one . The Yeti mic doesn’t need, one, and once the ideal setting is found, I shouldn’t need one, unless I upgrade my keyboard next year or later. My current audio equipment is more than good enough, to capture the themes, arrangements, of the compositions, and compose them right away. With everything on file, I can post process at my convenience: and shouldn’t have any problem to replay these compositions, by ear, using an upgraded keyboard, later on.
