Words from the Creator
Thurs Nov 5 Updates; Tribute; Lore; Adaptation; Thanks
Word: I put 95 % of sportscards into ultrapro sheets ( making space on main desk). Boards, bags, on 1/3 of comics without boards ( from 1990’s); making space on stacks of art. Opened packages ( photographed, scanned): 3 Antoinette covers; Jose Delbo Original art “Supergirl: Choose Your Own Adventure“; arranged the eastroom inking station. Should be able to work on art tomorrow. *
*After I set up the display case, and the Cheetah Premium statue, will have space for the Huion Tablet; and can practice digital coloring.
The seller of Al Rio art inquired into my art, I sent various links. I looked up the sellers facebook page; full of loving tribute to Al Rio; apparently his former agent ( explaining why he says the purchases help Al Rio’s family). There was alot of great Al Rio art on the Al Rio facebook page; there is also an Al Rio website. I hadn’t known he died – by the seller’s words, I assumed it was recent, but apparently, Al Rio died 8 years ago ( not that recently). I read his last interview; he was very ‘time-constrained’, and described creating works for requests, ( payment first; 40 days for completion) and doing them without fail, no matter how he felt, and what was going on; expressing that many things he didn’t have time to do, because he was always concerned about the time, to work on art. He lived with his wife and 2 daughters, and ran an hour every morning. His death, which I won’t go into much detail; was unexpected, and tragic. Glad to see how many loved his art, and how the seller, made a kickstarter, to publish a 3 volume collection of Al Rio’s work. ( He worked with Disney, before comics, and was compared to J Scott Campbell; he did pin-ups, so he could spend more time on details, to show his ability. He created some original books, which are being developed still)
This is what ‘Lurid Max’ means to me. Putting forth the max effort, to create these.
This can mean spending days drawing costumes, studying covers, anatomy, and redrawing compositions that had potential; but noticed some areas for improvement.
Example: If a scene has lurid imagery: to make the muscles (poses), the faces ( expressions) as aesthetically idealized, embellished as professionals do in mainstream. Anatomy, costumes, background. Informed, and stylized; with the time on task of professionals.
* [opened premium statue box, photographed: built 2/3 of the custom led display case – hope to finish tomorrow, early in day – so I have normal working space in main indoor studio; have alot of ideas I plan to get on paper**]
**guest left, emergency in another state – set pc room back as studio; looked online through related references; acquired Jose Delbo original art Supergirl (1984), and closing a deal within week on 5 Al Rio pieces. Cooked today. Surrounded by inspiring visuals, increasing studio atmosphere for great artwork.
Thanks for being a grass roots supporter of the Lurid Max Pre-Code Renaissance, I really appreciate your interest. Have a great weekend!
